What Is Vastu

Vastu in Sanskrit means nature , a surrounding or environment. The word "Vaasthu" came from Vasthu, denoting anything existing such as house, shelter building etc. Shastra in sanskrit means systems. Vastu shastra is an ancient art and science containing principles and practices of constructing buildings which ensures a harmonious balance between man and nature and thereby bring all round happiness, health, wealth and prosperity. Vastu is a holistic concept of architecture and interior design, whose principles are partially utilised in Feng Shui. It is based on the ancient Indian science of construction and placement according to nature's laws. The eternal principles of Vastu are equally as relevant and effective today as they were in ancient times, and when utilised properly, they promise to improve the quality of your living experience both at home and in working life. Vastu provides guidelines on how to create a supportive environment that will enable you to unleash your inner potential and easily reach your true capacity. Imagine working with people that constantly suppress and insult you, minimise your achievements and always exaggerate your mistakes. Would you be able to grow and perform to your best ability in such an environment? But on the other hand, by being constantly supported and encouraged by your loving friends, nourished and embraced even when you occasionally slip, you will easily reach beyond your limits. In the same way, Vastu is a science that recognises which natural forces are supportive and which are oppressive and thus shows you the way to a life of harmony, health, contentment and prosperity.

Vastu 5 Elements

The Sanskrit word vastu means "any really existing or abiding substance or essence, thing, object, article", and also "goods, wealth, property". The vrddhi, vāstu takes the meaning of "the site or foundation of a house, site, ground, building or dwelling-place, habitation, homestead, house". The underlying root is vas "to dwell, live, stay, abide".

The term shastra may loosely be translated as "science, doctrine, teaching".

Five (5) Elements According to vastu sastra, the world comprises five basic elements known as the pancha maha bhoota. Out of the eight planets, ours has life because of the presence and balance of these five elements. The five elements are as follows.

FIRE (Agni) - Represents light and heat which account for day, night, the seasons, energy, enthusiasm, passion and vigour.

SPACE (Akasha) - The akasha provides shelter to all the above elements.
